Tips for Party Boat Fishing

Inspired by our Blue Fishing Trip, Belmar NJ

1. Bring a Large Enough Cooler

Be optimistic, if your fishing for Blue Fish or Stripers a cooler you throw over your shoulder to take to the park isn’t going to cut it. You need a cooler that is at least 3 feet long; plus this will allow more room for drinks and snacks.

2. Wear Proper Shoes

Dress for Party Boat deck conditions. Flip Flops do not protect your feet from fish guts and blood. There is nothing worse than chum between your toes. There’s no way of avoiding the sludge being hosed in all directions of the boat so just wear tennis shoes or boots.

3. Dress Like You’re Going to Catch a Fish

Once you’ve gotten fish blood on your shirt and shorts it’s not coming off the whole 8 hours you’re at sea. Bring an extra change of clothes or wear layers.

4. Bring Cash

Party boats have the best grill food. Bring $10-$20 so you can enjoy a juicy hot dog or breakfast burrito.

5. Join the Fishing Pool

A little extra competition never hurt anyone right? Bring enough cash to join in; you never really know who will win. A fishing pool is usually $5-$20.
